〜なくして(は)

Meaning

without …; if there were no …

Nなくして(は) means "without N" and is followed by a negative or a statement of impossibility: 努力なくして成功はない "no success without effort". It presents N as indispensable. It is the formal counterpart of Nがなければ.

書き言葉 and speeches: slogans, editorials, ceremonial remarks. In conversation people say 〜がなければ / 〜なしでは.
