Meaning
As… / in the capacity of…
〜として names the role or position from which someone does something: 留学生として日本に来た = I came to Japan as an exchange student. 医者として = speaking as a doctor. The noun before として is a role, status, or category; the sentence tells what you do or think in that role.
Self-introductions, formal statements, essays. としては = "as for (my standpoint)"; としての + noun = "as a…" (親としての責任).
