Meaning

from the perspective of; judging from

〜からすると / 〜からすれば means "from the perspective of…" (a person or group) or "judging from…" (evidence). Parents see their children as always children; from that look, the exam went badly.

Both registers. The noun can be a person or group (親・専門家・外国人) or a piece of evidence (様子・話・データ). It is the most flexible of the から〜 viewpoint patterns; からいうと is limited to criteria and からして to representative features.

  • Distractors: からいうと (no persons), にとって, として. If the second clause is a judgment made by that person, からすると; if it is the effect on that person, にとって.
