〜からして
kara shite
By Nihongo PathUpdated
Meaning
even just ..., starting with ...; judging from
〜からして means "even just…, starting with…" or "judging from…". It picks out one obvious example (the atmosphere, the name, the attitude) and implies that if even that is so, the rest must be too. The tone is often critical.
Both registers, common in spoken evaluations. The noun is a representative first item (外見・名前・態度・値段・言い方). Two readings coexist: "even X (let alone the rest)" and "judging from X". In neutral inference, からすると is more common.
Formation
V = verb, N = noun, A = adjective.

JLPT N2 tips
On the exam
- A representative feature + a sweeping judgment about the whole → からして.
- Distractors: からすると (viewpoint), として (role), にしては ("for a…"). If the noun is a person, choose からすると.
- Look for words like まず, そもそも, 見た目 that signal a first example.
