Meaning
ていく: an action or change continuing away from now / from the speaker (into the future). てくる: a change that has come up to now, or something that starts to appear; also "go and do, then come back".
〜ていく and 〜てくる use "go" and "come" to show direction in space or time. In space: 持っていく = take (away from here), 持ってくる = bring (toward here), 買ってくる = go buy and come back. In time: 〜てくる = a change that has come up to now (寒くなってきた = it has got colder), 〜ていく = a change that continues from now on (寒くなっていく = it will keep getting colder). てくる can also mean something begins: 雨が降ってきた = it has started raining.
Errands and movement (ちょっと行ってきます), describing weather and seasons, talking about progress in study (分かるようになってきた), trends (人口が減っていく), and starting sensations (お腹がすいてきた).
