〜ないことには

unless ..., (nothing can happen)

〜ないことには means "unless…, (nothing can happen)". The first clause is a necessary condition in the negative, and the main clause is also negative: unless I actually see it, I can't say anything; without money, nothing can begin.

Both registers. Forms: Vない + ことには, Aい + くない + ことには, N/Aな + でない + ことには. The main clause is always negative (〜ない・〜できない・分からない). It is stronger than a plain 〜なければ.
