Formation
普通形 + ものを (V / Aい; Aな + な + ものを)〜ば〜ものを、… (if only … then … but …)Sentence end: 〜ものを。 (the consequence is implied)

  1. 早く医者に行けばよかったものを、我慢したせいで悪化してしまった。

    はやくいしゃにいけばよかったものを、がまんしたせいであっかしてしまった。

    You should have gone to the doctor sooner; because you put up with it, it got worse.

  2. 一言謝れば済むものを、彼は意地を張り続けた。

    ひとことあやまればすむものを、かれはいじをはりつづけた。
