Meaning
"want to ~" (the speaker's own wish to do an action).
ます-stem + たい means "want to (do)": 行きたいです "I want to go". It is for actions; for wanting a thing use ほしい. たい behaves like an い-adjective: たくない "don't want to", たかった "wanted to". The object can take を or が (水を飲みたい / 水が飲みたい).
Expressing your own wishes and asking a friend or equal 何をしたいですか. Not used to ask a superior what they want (too direct). For a third person: たがっている (N4).
