The difference

〜ているところ / 〜るところ / 〜たところ "in the middle of / about to / just did": V-dictionary + ところだ also means "about to" but as a calm statement of timing. 〜ようとしたとき adds the sense of an interrupted move.

Formation
V-volitional + とする: 開けようとする, 行こうとする, しようとする〜ようとしたが / 〜ようとしたけど: tried but… (failure)〜ようとしたとき / 〜ようとしたら: just when I was about to…〜ようとしない: refuse to / show no sign of doingWritten: 〜ようとしている (is about to)
