Close to 〜としても; にしても admits the fact then objects. Written: 〜にせよ / 〜にしろ (N2). The main clause after にしても often contains ぐらい / せめて / 少しは: a minimum expectation.

JLPT N3 tips

On the exam

  • Concession + a minimum expectation (ぐらい, せめて) = にしても.
  • Doubled pattern with two opposite options = にしても〜にしても (or にせよ〜にせよ).
  • にしては is the trap when the noun could set an expectation; read the main clause for objection vs surprise.
