Meaning

〜ものだから / 〜もので gives a reason while apologizing or justifying: 道が混んでいたものだから、遅れてしまいました. The reason is presented as something beyond the speaker's control, and the result is usually something regrettable. もので is the softer, slightly more polite variant; もんだから / もんで are casual.

Mainly spoken, in apologies and explanations to superiors or acquaintances. The main clause cannot be a request, command, or intention: it states what happened. In writing, ため / ので are used instead.
