Meaning
as if …; as though … (contrary to fact)
Clause + かのごとく (adverb) / かのごとき (modifier) means "as if X were the case", with the clear implication that X is not actually true: 何事もなかったかのごとく "as if nothing had happened". It is the literary version of かのように.
