Meaning
tell / ask / warn (someone) to… (indirect command or request)
〜ように言う reports an instruction without quoting it word for word: 医者は父に酒をやめるように言った "the doctor told my father to stop drinking". The same ように works with 頼む (ask), 注意する (warn), 伝える (pass on a message), 命じる (order). The person told is marked with に.
Reporting what someone told, asked or warned someone else to do; giving messages (〜ようにお伝えください). Both speech and writing.
