Meaning
(1) manner, way of doing; (2) after (a long interval)
〜ぶり has two uses. After a verb stem or noun it means "the way someone does X": 仕事ぶり (the way he works), 話しぶり (the way she talks). After a time expression it means "for the first time in X": 三年ぶりに帰った (returned for the first time in three years). 久しぶり is the everyday example. っぷり is an emphatic variant for vigorous manner (食べっぷり).
Both speech and writing. The manner use is common in evaluations (仕事ぶりに感心する); the interval use is extremely common in conversation (〜ぶりですね). ぶりに + verb, ぶりの + noun.
