〜しまつだ (始末だ) presents the final, worst point of a series of bad developments: 遅刻を繰り返したあげく、無断欠勤までするしまつだ (after repeated lateness, he ended up even skipping work). It expresses the speaker's exasperation. The short form このしまつだ / そのしまつだ means "look at the state of things".
Both speech and writing. Used to complain or criticise: the subject's behaviour went from bad to worse and here is the sorry result. Often preceded by あげく or ついには, and まで.
