Meaning
just like …; as if it were …
〜さながら means "exactly like X, as if it were the real thing": 実際の火事さながらの訓練 (a drill just like a real fire), 戦場さながら (just like a battlefield). It is a literary equivalent of まるで〜のようだ and stresses a striking resemblance.
