〜ほどのことではない

not serious enough to …; not worth …ing; nothing that calls for …

〜ほどのことではない plays something down: the matter is not big enough to justify the action mentioned. 病院に行くほどのことではない = "It's nothing that needs a trip to the hospital". The verb before ほど is the reaction that would be too much (行く・報告する・騒ぐ・心配する).

Spoken and written, neutral. Often used to reassure someone (心配するほどのことではない) or to decline a fuss modestly (お礼を言われるほどのことではありません). The polite form 〜ほどのことではありません is common.

  "There is no need to" because it is obvious or already done. ほどのことではない says the matter is too minor to deserve the reaction. Compare side by side

  The affirmative ほどのことだ is not used to mean "worth being surprised about". The pattern lives in the negative; for the positive idea say 驚くべきことだ.

Set replies: お礼を言われるほどのことではありません ("no thanks needed"), 心配するほどのことではない ("nothing to worry about"). Adding わざわざ or そんなに before the verb strengthens the sense of "that would be overreacting". The affirmative 〜ほどのことだ is rare; keep the pattern negative.
