〜方 (かた) "how to / way of doing"

Turns a verb into "the way / method of doing".

V-ます stem + 方 (かた) means "the way of doing / how to do": 読む → 読み方 (how to read), 使う → 使い方 (how to use), 作る → 作り方 (how to make). The result is a noun, so the object of the verb takes の instead of を: 漢字の読み方 (how to read the kanji), not 漢字を読み方. For する-verbs use Nの仕方: 勉強の仕方 (how to study).

Asking for instructions (〜方を教えてください), describing someone's manner (話し方, 歩き方), recipes and manuals (作り方, 使い方). Used in all registers. It is the everyday way to say "how to" as a noun.
