Meaning
"there is nothing for it but to ~", "we have no choice but to ~". Added to a dictionary-form verb to say that one option is all that is left.
After a dictionary-form verb, しかない says the speaker sees no other option. The particle しか + negative meaning "only" is the separate N5 point 〜しか〜ない.
Sense (1) when circumstances leave one option; sense (2) when stressing how little there is.
