Meaning
(1) only… / just…; (2) ever since… (nothing has happened) (V-たきり); (3) constantly / wholly (〜きりだ / 〜っきり)
〜きり has three related uses, all about a limit. (1) "Only": 二人きり "just the two of us". (2) After a た-form: something happened and then nothing more: 出かけたきり帰ってこない "went out and hasn't come back since". (3) A fixed state: 寝たきり "bedridden", つきっきり "constantly attending".
Sense 1 in emotional or emphatic speech (これっきり "this is the last time"); sense 2 in narratives and complaints, always followed by a negative; sense 3 in set words. Casual: 〜っきり.

Similar grammar and the difference
〜だけ
Neutral 'only'. きり adds emotion or finality (これっきり).
'Since (doing)' with any continuation, positive or negative. たきり requires 'nothing more happened'. Compare side by side
