あえて挑戦する
to take on a challenge despite the odds
あえて~ない
not to bother / need to ~

Memory tip

あえて means choosing the harder or riskier option knowingly — so it carries resolve, unlike わざと, which often implies mischief. With a negative it flips to 'there's no need to go out of one's way to ~'.
