Memory tip

A more vivid, literary 走る, and especially natural for horses. Its real value is the compounds it heads: 駆けつける (rush to the scene), 駆け込む (dash inside), 駆け寄る. Note the many homophones of かける — 掛ける, 賭ける, 欠ける.
