動く vs 動かす
JLPT N4 vocabulary · what is the difference?
動く is something moving or running by itself (時計が動く, the clock is going); 動かす is you moving something (机を動かす, you move the desk). Beyond physical motion, 動く is the everyday word for a machine working: この時計は動いていません means the clock is broken, not that it is holding still.
When to use each

うごく
Use 動く when the thing itself moves or operates: a person shifting position, a train running, a machine working. It takes が, and 動かないで means hold still.
この時計は動いていません。

うごかす
Use 動かす when someone shifts or operates something: furniture, a machine, one's own body. It takes を, and 体を動かす is the common way to say get some exercise.
机を窓の方へ動かしました。
つくえをまどのほうへうごかしました。
I moved the desk toward the window.
毎日体を動かすようにしています。
まいにちからだをうごかすようにしています。
I try to get some exercise every day.
Sentences where only one works
台風で電車が動いていません。
たいふうででんしゃがうごいていません。
The trains aren't running because of the typhoon.
The trains are the subject of their own operation, so 動く. This is the standard way to report suspended service.
その箱を動かさないでください。
そのはこをうごかさないでください。
Please don't move that box.
An object is being shifted, so 動かす with を. 動かないでください tells the listener not to move themselves.
東京へ引っ越しました。
とうきょうへひっこしました。
I moved to Tokyo.
Moving house is 引っ越す. 動く never means relocating your home.
Common mistakes
机を動きました。
机を動かしました。
動く takes no を. Moving an object needs the transitive 動かす.
アメリカに動きました。
アメリカに引っ越しました。
English move does double duty; Japanese does not. Changing residence is 引っ越す.
この機械は働いていません。
この機械は動いていません。
働く is for people doing work. Machines running, or failing to run, take 動く.

動かす is shifting something, possibly only a little and still in the same place. 運ぶ is carrying it from one place to another.

It literally means to move one's body, and it is the softer everyday way to say get some exercise, less formal than 運動する.
