Strategy notes: read these before the passage

Emails to teachers usually contain one apology, one reason, and one or two requests. Mark each with a different symbol as you read.
〜と言いました reports what someone else said. The doctor's advice, not Anna's decision, is inside the quotes.
〜ことができますか is a request for permission. The verb before it (受ける) is what the writer wants to do.

Passage

山本先生

こんにちは。三組（さんくみ）のアンナです。

すみませんが、あしたの授業（じゅぎょう）を休みたいです。きのうから熱（ねつ）があって、今朝（けさ）病院へ行きました。医者は「二日ぐらい休んだほうがいい」と言いました。

あしたは漢字のテストがあると聞きましたが、来週受（う）けることができますか。宿題（しゅくだい）は、友だちに聞いて、来週の月曜日に出します。

よろしくお願いします。
