Memory tip

Standing alone, 衆 is dated and regional — 若い衆 means the young men of a village or a trade. You will mostly meet it as a suffix: 観衆, 聴衆, 民衆, 大衆. Do not confuse it with the homophone 週 'week' or the counter 周 'laps'.
